Stand Against Hate
Resolution Condemning Anti-AANHPI Hate and Extremist Harassment
Asian American Democrats of Texas (AADT) and the Texas Democratic Party (TDP) unequivocally condemns anti-AANHPI racism, hate crimes, harassment, and intimidation in all forms, including the coordinated online harassment campaigns fueled by extremist political movements.
We stand in solidarity with Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities and leaders who continue to face discrimination, harassment, and threats while serving their communities and participating in democratic life.
We call on leaders at every level of government to reject racist rhetoric, conspiracy theories, and scapegoating that fuel hatred and division.
We commit to confronting political extremism and defending the rights of all communities targeted by hate, intimidation, and discrimination.
We affirm that AANHPIs belong in every part of our democracy, from community leadership to public office, and will not be silenced by racism or political intimidation.

Muslim Texans, You Belong Here. Texas Republicans Said Otherwise.
Asian American Democrats of Texas (AADT), the Muslim Democratic Caucus of Texas (MDC), and the Texas Democratic Party (TDP) have always stood with Muslim Texans, and we always will.
This past weekend, Texas Republicans gathered in Houston and showed the country exactly who they are. Muslim Texans who came to that convention as delegates, as Republicans, were told to convert or leave. Told there is no place in America for them. Told by their own party to go join the Democrats.
So let us be the ones to say: welcome. You will always have a home with the Texas Democratic Party.
Texas Republicans have spent years hiding their Islamophobia behind buzzwords like "freedom" and "Texas values." They ripped that mask off themselves. The Texas Republican Party demands religious conformity; they have built an entire legislative agenda around demonizing Islam, and their own convention, they reignited hatred toward Muslim Texans, including members of their own party, while preaching unity.
That is not freedom. That is not faith. And it is certainly not Texas values.
Muslim Texans are our neighbors, our colleagues, and our friends. They are part of the fabric of this state, and they deserve elected leaders and party that actually believes that.
Religious freedom means nothing if it only protects certain people. Texas Democrats believe in full religious freedom for every Texan.
We reject Islamophobia in every form. We stand with every Muslim Texan who is targeted, scapegoated, or pushed to the margins, and we will keep standing with them.
Y'all belong here. You are Texas. And you have a home in the Texas Democratic Party.

Condemnation of Governor Abbott's Attack on CAIR
Asian American Democrats of Texas (AADT) strongly condemns Governor Gregory Abbott's decision to label the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) a "foreign terrorist and transnational criminal organization."
This baseless and inflammatory attack targets not only a respected civil rights group but the broader Muslim American community in Texas.
For decades, CAIR has worked to defend families, protect civil liberties, and stand up for those targeted by hate. Smearing them as terrorists is nothing more than an intimidation tactic designed to silence vulnerable communities. This kind of rhetoric also endangers law-abiding Muslim Texans by increasing the risk of harassment and violence, which is both an irresponsible and dangerous move from the Governor of our state.
We refuse to allow that to happen. AADT stands firmly with CAIR and with Muslim Texans. We will not stay silent while our communities are targeted for political gain, and we will continue working to ensure all Texans are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

In Solidarity Against Hate
Divisive and inflammatory political rhetoric, media narratives and disinformation are fueling a rise in Islamophobia and antisemitism in Texas and across the country. As a proud Texas organization, we are united with other organizations across our state to denounce all forms of hate. We invite all Texans to unite against all forms of hate and to stand for peace for all – now and in the future.

Condemnation of Violence Targeting Asian Women in Atlanta
Asian American Democrats of Texas (AADT) condemns the vicious serial murders of Asian women that took place in Atlanta, Georgia, and expresses our condolences to the families and friends of the victims. This is a direct result of the hatred sown by the previous administration.
“We must stand up against the tidal wave of anti-AANHPI hate and push our communities and elected officials to do more,” said AADT spokesperson. “This attack on Asian women has a clear race component and is rooted in a history of violence and fetishization directed towards women of Asian descent.”
Elevating the perpetrator’s perspective over voices and data of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community is a significant problem. AANHPI women, in particular, are often overlooked victims of violence. A poll commissioned by the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) reveals that nearly half of AANHPI women have been affected by anti-AANHPI racism in the past few years, with more than 68% of reported incidents of anti-AANHPI harassment and violence involving women.
AANHPI communities across the nation, including in Texas, are experiencing a rise in attacks due to the stoking of racial resentment against AANHPIs in light of the pandemic. Anti-AANHPI hate is rising in America.
We call on our local, state, and elected officials to stand up to anti-AANHPI hate and racism and enact safety regulations, including gun safety measures, to allow Asian women and others to feel safe in their communities while living their daily lives and working in various industries.
Texas has the third-highest number of AANHPIs. Since 2010, more Asian than Latinx immigrants have arrived in the U.S. each year. AANHPIs represent the fastest-growing racial or ethnic segment of the U.S. electorate. We call on all Texans to foster an environment that promotes inclusivity and the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. We cannot let this tragic moment set the stage for more pain and suffering.
We urge Texans to report any hateful incidents to the following:

Condemnation of Racist Attacks on Asian Americans
Asian American Democrats of Texas (AADT) condemns the hatred directed at Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI). We respectfully call on bipartisan leadership to stop spreading unfounded lies, which serve only to divide our diverse communities and expose those of us who are already vulnerable to verbal, physical, and virtual attacks.
AADT condemns the hateful rhetoric coming from the previous administration, legislators and politicians who have referred to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as the “China Virus,” “Wuhan Virus,” and/or the “Kung Flu”. These words matter deeply, as they negatively target our AANHPI community and are therefore highly unacceptable, especially coming from national leaders.
AADT strongly urges them to withdraw their hateful rhetoric, publicly apologize to our community, and cease spreading racism at a time when we must focus on averting global crises. Our leadership must rise to the occasion, rather than further endanger our lives.
AADT respectfully urges its members and delegates to stand with our fellow AANHPIs as we weather this difficult time together. Please reach out to communities affected by this senseless racism and contact elected officials to urge them to stop using hurtful language that targets our own.
