Honoring AANHPI Heritage Month

WHEREAS, in 1992, the United States officially designated the month of May as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month to celebrate and pay tribute to the generations of significant achievements and contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders to our nation; and

WHEREAS, AANHPI communities are diverse and multifaceted, comprising many distinct ethnicities, languages, and cultures, and their histories have often been erased and excluded from K-12 curriculum, despite their vital role in shaping American history; and

WHEREAS, today, AANHPIs are the fastest-growing racial and ethnic group in the United States, including over two million Texans and over one million eligible voters, yet continue to face underrepresentation and systemic challenges, including discrimination, xenophobia, and targeted violence against businesses and places of worship; and

WHEREAS, AANHPI communities have made invaluable contributions across our nation's history, economy, arts, sciences, technology, medicine, law, government, and politics, enriching Texas and the United States with their leadership, culture, and civic engagement; and

WHEREAS, the Texas Democratic Party recognizes the importance of amplifying AANHPI voices, advancing equity, promoting inclusion, and standing in solidarity against all forms of hate and injustice to ensure their contributions are celebrated, respected, and represented at every level of public life.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Texas Democratic Party hereby honors Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and celebrates the diverse and vibrant cultures, traditions, and histories of these communities; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Texas Democratic Party recognizes the contributions of AANHPI Democrats to our party’s principles, platforms, and electoral successes, and reaffirms its commitment to amplifying their voices and advancing their interests within our party, state, and nation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Texas Democratic Party will make intentional efforts to involve AANHPI community members, activists, and leaders in strategic and policy decisions, future staffing and leadership positions, and additional seats in party leadership bodies, ensuring these communities are centered in shaping the party's direction and priorities; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Texas Democratic Party condemns all forms of racism, discrimination, and bigotry targeting AANHPI communities, and reaffirms its commitment to stand in solidarity with them in the fight against hate and injustice; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Texas Democratic Party calls upon all elected leaders and community members to actively advocate for policies that promote equity and justice for all, and to address the unique needs and challenges faced by AANHPI communities, building a society that values and uplifts their contributions through collaboration and partnership.
