Asian American Democrats of Texas (AADT) have always stood for promoting peace, justice, and equality both at home and abroad. In light of the ongoing crisis in Gaza, AADT took critical action and reached out to our Texas Democratic representatives to express our deep concerns and call for immediate action towards a ceasefire and a more thoughtful, strategic approach to resolving the conflict. The letter we sent to our representatives on October 19, 2023, is a testament to our unwavering commitment to peace, safety, and security for all those affected by the ongoing situation in Palestine and Israel. The letter emphasizes several key points:

Permanent Ceasefire—We call for an immediate ceasefire, as we believe that the loss of civilian lives is unacceptable, whether they are Palestinians or Israelis. It is our strong belief that a peaceful solution is the only way forward, and ongoing military actions will not lead to a lasting resolution.
 

International Humanitarian Law—We highlight that these actions violate international humanitarian law and have been a longstanding concern for over 75 years. It is our duty to advocate for justice and human rights in the region.
 

The Value of Human Life—We urge our representatives to recognize the value of all human life, regardless of ethnicity or nationality, and to work towards ending the humanitarian crisis affecting the people in Gaza.
 

Avoiding Complicity—We express concern that our tax dollars are funding weapons that harm innocent Palestinians, including children. We do not wish to be complicit in such actions, which can perpetuate further radicalization and hinder the path to peace and prosperity.
 

Islamophobia and Antisemitism—We stand firmly against Islamophobia and antisemitism, emphasizing the need to denounce both forms of hate. One-sided rhetoric has led to an increase in hate crimes, and we call on our representatives to protect and support Palestinian and Muslim American citizens as well as all victims of discrimination.

We have made these recommendations in the hope that they align with the broader foreign policy, human rights, and civil rights agendas of our representatives. Addressing this crisis is essential to ensure peace both at home and abroad.
